Rhino Roof Rack Wind Noise

I purchased and had fitted a pioneer tradie platform from roof rack city in adelaide.

Very happy with roof rack city. If your goal is to reduce wind noise while you are driving this product is for you. Drove home after fitting 3 5 hours of hell. The outbacks had a rubber pad between the rack and roof that would flap sound like an angry bee hive or whistle.

One problem was the lack of actual instructions for this particular install. I have the rhino rack on 3 hd bars. Made to fit various kinds of vehicles the rhino rack wind fairing has a universal mount system which makes it easier to secure crossbars. The rhino wind fairings are designed to reduce wind noise and reduce wind drag. Had to pick text items out of 2 guides that were included but neither was for this exact install.

Mines starts roaring and getting annoying when i get up to. The rhino rack pioneer wind fairing is designed to reduce the oncoming wind noise. I was going to contact rhino rack before i gave a review but not possible. Additionally the rhino wind fairing is universally fitting which means that it will easily attach to cross bars from most major roof rack brands.

The wind noise we hear from some roof racks is known as aeolian no ise and is produced by wind when it passes over or through objects. If the surface the wind passes over has a consistent shape the disturbance becomes tonal and at certain frequencies very annoying. No wind noise at all but without the rack the noise over the bars is very loud.

Find a way to deflect noise off the front of the roof rack fix a wind deflector or fix gaffa tape something onto the leading edge to see if this reduces the noise. It was like having a jet plane on top of the car the wind noise was so bad.
