Repairing Boat Floor Plywood

Once you are confident that the rotten sections have been removed you can start to repair the floor as needed.

Drill 1 16 inch pilot holes one inch from edges of the repair patch and start stainless steel wood screws in each hole. You cannot repair the boat floor while rotten wood remains as it will only continue to rot. Reconnect the electrical wires and water lines below deck. Note that even though the plywood has been snapped and left exposed to rain and wind it still holds its integrity.

Drill screw holes in the dried fiberglass mat. When the resin has dried you may wish to smooth off any rough edges with a soft sander. Step 1 remove the damaged flooring the most common material used for boat flooring is bc plywood and it is also used for fiberglass boats in particular. Cover the plywood flooring pieces with a fiberglass mat and seal in place using a fiberglass resin.

Plywood is made with layers of wood veneer laid with the grains at approximately right angles and then glued together. If you have the means and resources to remove a piece of the boat floor and replace it then that is the best thing you can do for the boat. Cut the outline to make the repair patch. Plywood can be repaired if the damaged area is not extensive.
