Remove Mold From Boat Carpet

Mold and mildew enjoy dark and moist areas and if it s humid the faster mold will grow. However if you used baking soda with the vinegar it will remove any odors from the carpet along with the mold. Scrub the mossy spots with the scrub brush. This is probably the first thing to do when you detect mold and mildew on your boat carpet.

Use a sponge to scrub the carpet and allow it to air dry. Place it on the deck under the sun so ultraviolet light kills mold and mildew. Let the vinegar sit for at least an hour before blotting or scrubbing the area. It should lift right off the carpeting but will leave behind a messy residue.

Rinse with fresh water thoroughly. Using a stiff scrubbing brush apply a soap and water mixture to the area. For tough to remove patches of mold create a paste using a cup of lemon juice and a cup of salt instead. Day 5 in my 90 day video challenge.

My favorite way to clean the carpet in my boat is to get down and scrub it with a scrub brush and mild detergent. Blot any wet areas until dry then vacuum. You will want to clean the flooring below the carpet in the same manner scrubbing it with the soapy water mixture. The strong odor from the vinegar will dissipate within a few hours.

To remove mold and mildew try using a solution of bleach water tsp tri sodium phosphate and powdered laundry detergent mixed in the following proportions. There are plenty of harsh chemicals on the market but a homemade remedy can be created that will also do the trick. Consider using a specialty canvas mold cleaner scrubbing gently with a soft brush if necessary. Mold removal boat canvas items regularly wash away salt and dirt with fresh water.

Scrub the area thoroughly until all of the residue from the mold is removed. Let it dry overnight. If your boat has a lot of moss you may want to sweep up the moss pieces before rinsing to avoid spraying moss debris all over the driveway. Combine equal parts of water and vinegar in a bottle and spray it on the mildew.
