Remove carpet glue from deck.
I thought i d put out a video on what i currently have figured out with regards to stripping carpet glue from an aluminum boat.
Use a chemical solvent to soften the carpet glue allowing you to remove it.
Start with a scraping tool.
The adhesive used to attach the carpet is more durable than standard carpet glue because it must resist water and temperature fluctuations.
Removing the carpet can be difficult but is made easier with the correct materials and the proper technique.
Boiling water will soften up hard to remove glue.
You may also come across adhesive from self sticking carpets.
Remove as much of the carpet glue as possible by scraping it using a razor blade scraper.
Step 1 scraping the carpet glue.
Your first measure is to manually remove as much glue as you can with a scraping tool while this may not banish every last bit of carpet glue from the floor.
The bulk of carpet adhesives are spreadable and although most are water soluble they don t necessarily dissolve in water once they have cured the same is true of latex paint.
For this reason after you pull up the carpet you must then spend some time removing the glue that remains stuck to the fiberglass.
It was very trendy for a period of time in the 1980s to glue indoor outdoor carpet to the surface of a patio.
The scraper can easily remove big chunks of the glue which helps get the job done more easily later.
This adhesive is often foam like and although you use the same procedures to get it off it s a little more difficult to remove than a spreadable adhesive.
Though incredibly effective this specialty glue is also notorious because it leaves behind sticky residue that is hard to remove with traditional removal methods.
Carpet glue is an incredibly strong adhesive designed to fix rolls of carpet to concrete floors.
Step 2 use boiling water.
If you have cut the carpet into strips then you can use this tool to get underneath a section and then work through the whole of the deck until you have all the carpet removed.
Some people may still adhere indoor outdoor carpet in this manner.
