When referring to the king valve most air conditioning technicians are referring to the valve which is found downstream from a liquid line receiver.
Back seated all the way out fully counter clockwise this position provides full operational flow through the valve body but is closed to the access port.

Front seated position the valve stem is turned fully clockwise to effectively stop the flow of refrigerant vapour from the suction line union on the low pressure side of the compressor and to the discharge line union on the high pressure side of the compressor.
The king valve is unique in its position because it allows you to pump down a system by closing it and running the compressor until all or most refrigerant is pumped out of the low side of the system and into the condenser and receiver.
In this position the line port is closed but the middle port is open to the service port figure 25 10.
These types of valves have no schrader port so there will be no pressure on the port when the valve stem is back seated.
